March 27, 2012 - 12:00 AM

Erma Josephine Hixon Nichols, “Jody,” of Elizabethton, Tenn., died Sunday, March 25, 2012, at her residence.

She was born March 26, 1930, the daughter of Clarence Irvin and Pearl Mae Hixon in Iola.

Jody expressed her feelings through beautiful poems. One of her most memorable was “A Lifetime” and began with the words, “It’s taken me a lifetime Lord of striving for perfection to find that all you ask of me is a mirror of your reflection …” Jody lived her life as God’s mirror.

She graduated from high school in Iola in 1947 and studied at Ozark Bible College in Joplin, Mo., and at Pittsburg State University. She retired from Southwestern Bell in 1982 after 35 years of service.

Jody married John Lee Nichols Jr. in 1949 and together they lived a shining example of Godly marriage, always clinging to one another through joys and sorrows, health and sickness. After 61 years together, Jody said good-bye to John on this earth in 2010. Now she rejoins him in our Heavenly Kingdom, their eternal home. They were members of First United Methodist Church in Elizabethton.

Jody and John are survived by their two children, Kyle Irvin, and his wife, Linda, and Kathy Jo who were the lights of their lives, along with their grandchildren, Scott and his wife, Natalie, Keith and his wife, June, Kimberly and her husband, Mark, David and his wife, Heather, Cassie Lyn, Jerri Hughes and her husband, Jason, and J.P Parsons and his wife, Shana; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Sarina, David James, Staci, Willow, Jaid, Adam, Adrienne and Shepherd; and two sisters, Rita Sanders and Vickie Henry.
