Ronald E. “Ron” Yelm, 67, of Mound Valley, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Mo.
He was born July 30, 1943, in Bell, Calif., to John V. and Mary L. (Collinsworth) Yelm. He grew up in southern California and graduated from high school there. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and later served in the Army National Guard.
He worked as a truck driver for 33 years before retiring in 2000. He lived in Iola from 1973 until moving to Mound Valley in 2006.
On July 16, 1995, he married Alfreda Joyce (Wilder) Garber in Enid, Okla. 
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Ronald E. Jr. and his wife, Janell, Iola; a daughter, Kimberly Clay and her husband, Chris, Deerfield, Mo.; four stepchildren, Stevie Veltman and her husband, Mike, Ponca City, Okla., Nikki Pace and her husband, Aric, Watonga, Okla., Marie Alesich, Garnett, and Franklin Howington Jr., Eunice, La.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Four brothers died earlier.
Funeral services were this afternoon at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. The service concluded with military honors given by Parsons Veterans of Foreign Wars. Burial was in Mound Valley Cemetery.
