Daniel D. Christy, 91, Iola, passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola.
Daniel Decatur Christy, the son of Daniel Phillip and Fay (Lingenfelter) Christy, was born Oct. 16, 1923, on the family farm in rural Coffey County. He graduated from Le Roy High School and worked for Doc Meats several years farming. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. He worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for nine years and for Kenny Winn for 10 years. His last employment was with the Woodson County Co-op for 22 years, which he loved. He quit to take care of his wife, Shirley Christy.
Daniel married Beulah Miller and they later divorced. He and Shirley Colleen Crotts were married June 19, 1968. She preceded him in death Aug. 29, 1997.
Daniel was a member of the First Christian Church of Le Roy. He enjoyed visiting with people at the Iola McDonald’s.
Surviving members of the family include daughter, Donna D. Christy Bowen, Chanute, son, Donald D. Christy, Halstead, brother, Calvin Christy, Le Roy, grandsons Kevin Bowen, Le Roy, Shawn Christy and Tyler Christy, granddaughters Karin Bowen Platt, Virgil, and Amy Christy Fox; great-grandkids, Blaine and Emma Platt, Virgil, Brandon and Shaylie Bowen, Muskogee, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley Christy, brother, Royce Christy and sisters Phyllis Storrer and Ruth Storrer.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church of Le Roy. Burial will follow at Logue Cemetery southeast of LeRoy. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church of Le Roy.
Memorial gifts to the First Christian Church of Le Roy may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
