David Lee Hawn, 80, Iola, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at his home.
David was born Aug. 3, 1934, in Pittsburg, the son of George and Goldie (Prideaux) Hawn. He grew up in Pittsburg. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict when he was wounded and awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
In 1951, David married Donna Faye Rhudy in Pittsburg. They made their home in Washington state and Indiana before moving to Iola 37 years ago. He worked as an electrical engineer and master electrician for Sinclair Oil, ARCO, Atlantic Richfield and BP Oil. Donna preceded him in death July 4, 2010.
He was a member of the Iola American Legion and Community Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen Hawn Maple and husband Randy Lee, Iola; a son, David Lee Hawn II and wife Janet Lee, Crown Point, Ind.; nine grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, six siblings and a great-grandson, Elijah Alexander Gonzalez.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. p.m. today at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel. He will be buried in Girard Cemetery.
