Donald R. Dole, 81, Yates Center, passed away Nov. 7, 2016.
He was born Oct. 2, 1935, in Gypsum, the son of Clem and Margaret (Kessler) Dole.
He and his former wife, Marjorie (Smoot) Dole had two children.
He is survived by his son, Gary and wife Stacy, Black Hawk, S.D.; his sister, Patricia Larson, Iola; his aunt, Evelyn Miller, California; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dianna Lynn; his parents, Clem and Margaret Dole; his grandmother, Sadie Kessler; and his uncle, Durrad Dole.
He graduated high school and two-year junior college in Iola.
He was called to serve in the Army in 1958, serving two years. He spent time in Arizona as a construction worker, then in South Dakota, working carpentry and building construction.
Don spent the last 10 years in the Neosho Falls, Yates Center and Iola areas, where he grew up.
He had a great respect for the outdoors, hunting, fishing and teaching his son the same values.
He endured many health issues the last few years of his life.
His family and friends were an important part of his life. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends to honor his life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Greenery in Iola.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Don’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
