Donald Gene DressIer, 74, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010.
He was born July 29, 1936, in Iola to Paul Eugene and Velva (Paugh) DressIer. He graduated from Iola High School in 1955 where he played basketball and was Student Council president his senior year. He attended Pittsburg State University on a basketball scholarship. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1960 with a bachelor of science of civil engineering degree and in 1986, he earned a master of engineering degree from the University of Kansas.
He worked for U.S. Steel in Gary, Ind., Havens Structural Steel in Independence. Mo., Atlas Chemical in Joplin. Mo., and Imperial Chemical Company, Newark, Del. and Pasadena, Calif. He holds several copyrights and U.S. patents. The family moved to Leawood in 1973 where he worked for Cutter, Haver, Lockhart (now Bayvet) in Shawnee. He started his own business in 1975. Dressler Consulting Engineers. Inc. where he was still serving as president. He was a member of various professional organizations including American Society of Civil Engineers, American Concrete Institute, Professional Engineers in Private Practice, American Arbitration Association (honorary), Kansas Cavalry, (Ambassadors for Kansas) and the U.S. Green Building Council. He was also a registered professional Engineer in Kansas, Missouri and Texas.
On June 1, 1958, he married Lou Krause in Iola. They made the Lake of the Ozarks their home in later years.
He is survived h his wife and three children, Darrin, Kansas City, Mo., Kristin Pierson and her husband, Matt, Nashville, Tenn., and David and his wife, Holly, Olathe; four grandchildren, Abigail and Dalton Dressler and Harrison and Sam Pierson; a sister, Donna Good, Winter Park, Fla.; sister-in-law, Diane Dressler, Topeka; brother-in-law, Bill Krause and his wife, Sharen, Bonner Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, Dennis “Joe,” died earlier.
Arrangements are being coordinated through D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel.
A visitation was held this afternoon at the funeral chapel.
