Evelyn Venard Brown was born in Iola on Aug. 27, 1913, to Charles Sylvester and Cora Roberts Venard. She died Sunday, May 8, 2011, at noon, following a brief illness, in Denton, Texas, where she had lived since 2005, after leaving her home of more than 50 years in Idalou, Texas.
She was the organist for Idalou Methodist Church for many of those years. She was special assistant to Rosalind Kress Haley in Lubbock and Abilene, Texas, developing a library and other various projects for 20 years. Throughout her life, she always valued her friends. She will be remembered by family and friends as being kind, industrious and hospitable.
She is survived by a son, Charles R. “Buddy,” Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Anne Brown, Nashville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Cecile Lucero, Fort Worth, and Lisa Bush, Justin, Texas; and five great-grandchildren.
Three brothers and two sisters, Richard Venard, Robert Venard, Kenneth Venard, Shirley Venard Hartmann and Glennis Venard Clark, her husband, Dr. Wm. H. Brown; and a daughter, Shirley Dianne Brown, died earlier.
Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock. No services are scheduled.
