Golda Colles

Obituaries

February 11, 2014 - 12:00 AM

Golda Marie Colles, 61, Paola, earned her wings on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014. She was a limited edition, there was no one like her and if you knew her you were lucky.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1952, to James T. Fletcher who preceded her in death, and Velary Iden, Iola. She is also survived by her sister, Connie Wilson, Sioux Falls S.D.; brothers, J.T. Fletcher, Moran, and Shayne Iden, Iola. She was preceded in death by an infant sister Lyleann Fletcher. Golda is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was united in marriage with the love of her life and best friend Bill Colles on Oct. 30, 1987. Together they united their families. April Colborn, La Harpe, and Aaron Oswalt, Iola, (both from Golda’s previous marriage) and Michael Colles, Las Vegas, Jenny Altis, Vassar, and Sean Colles, Gardner, (from Bill’s previous marriage). Golda always said, “There are no step-children in our family.” She is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
She always made sure everyone else was taken care of before herself, this is why nursing was her career calling. She was also a pioneer in the hospice movement.
Golda was always in her element when she was surrounded by her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always loved a bargain and was never afraid to search for one.
We will all miss her smile, humor, and her strength. She was a warrior against cancer. She never felt sorry for herself. She was an inspiration to everyone that knew her.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon, Thursday, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home Paola Chapel. Golda’s celebration of life will follow at noon Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to Harden Hospice and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Golda’s name.
