Harold William Palmer, 85, of rural LaHarpe, died at Allen County Regional Hospital on Friday.

Harold was born Nov. 5, 1928, in Eureka, the son of Guy and Nina (Wagner) Palmer. He graduated from Longton High School and then farmed. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1954 he began construction work.

In 1959, Harold married Doris Helen Skaggs and they made their home in Wichita. Along with construction work he became a member of Local No. 101 International Union of Operating Engineers, for which he later worked before retiring in 1989. In 1992, they made their home on a farm south of LaHarpe where he farmed and raised cattle. Mrs. Palmer preceded him in death March 20, 2005.

His memberships include the American Legion, National Rifle Association and Kansas Livestock Association.

Survivors include one daughter, Julie Price and husband Ben of Humble, Texas; one granddaughter, Jennifer Alters and husband Dennis of Humble, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Cade and Cambri Alters; and special friend, Lavada Reimer.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. The burial will take place at LaHarpe Cemetery. To sign the guest book online or leave a condolence, go to www.iolafuneral.com.
