Irene Broyles, 86, Humboldt, passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016 in Humboldt.
Irene was born on June 19, 1930, in Byng, Okla., the daughter of Noah Thomas and Francis (Smith) Abbott.
On June 21, 1947, Irene married James Nelson Broyles in Byng. James preceded her in death in 2009.
Irene moved to Humboldt in 1961 and was a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, a wife and a homemaker. In 1968, she started as bookkeeper for Broyles, Inc., and continued that for 27 years. Irene enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Hoe and Hope Garden Club. She was also an avid bridge player. Irene was a member of the Humboldt United Methodist Church.
Irene is survived by a son, David (Terry) Broyles, Humboldt; daughters, Janet (John) Broyles-Rausch, Chanute, and Betty (Larry) Bartlett, Humboldt; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James.
Cremation has been requested.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Reachout Christian Center at 201 S. Malcolm in Chanute.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery in Humboldt. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.
