J. Roger Beatty, 93, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at Gardens of Western Reserve in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
He was born in Iola. He graduated from Kansas State University with a physics degree and moved to Akron, Ohio, in 1942. He worked at the B.F. Goodrich Research Center in Brecksville, Ohio. He retired in 1982 as senior research fellow. He held numerous U.S. patents in rubber technology and authored many scientific papers in the fields of applied and theoretical physics.
He served in the U.S. Cavalry, Fort Riley, being honorably discharged in 1936. He was a founding member of Parents of Priests in 1972 and served as an officer. He enjoyed golf, woodworking and tinkering with cars.
He is survived by his children, the Rev. James H., Linda and her husband, Randy Fans, and Alice E. Beatty; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Benjamin and Jennifer; and numerous nieces and nephews in Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Verne E. Haskins, second wife, Theresa A. Snedeker, daughter, Catherine, and brothers, Ronald and Duane.
A memorial Mass will be Friday in St. Sebastian Church in Akron. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
