James Guinn Anderson, 77, LaHarpe, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017, at his home in Sherman, Texas.
He was born July 17, 1939, in Gas City. He grew up in LaHarpe, graduated from Iola High School, attended Allen County Community Junior College and later graduated with his master’s degree from Pittsburg State University. He served for four years in the U.S. Navy. He married Doris Schiefelbine on Feb. 26, 1961, in LaHarpe. Over the course of the next five years they added three children to their family.
James worked in industry and education and retired from the Kansas State Department of Education in 2001.He enjoyed gardening, family history/genealogy and spending time with his family. He also volunteered and served in various positions in his church throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Evelyn Anderson, and a son, James Douglas.
He is survived by his wife Doris; daughter Dana Hicken (Matt); son Michael (Tana), grandchildren Sheryl Bustamante (Will), Christian Hicken (Cami), Nicholas Hicken (Dayna), Megan and Lexi Hicken; and great-grandchildren Trey and Tripp Bustamante and Aubrey Hicken.
A graveside service and inurnment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Highland Cemetery at Iola. Contributions in lieu of flowers are suggested to Camp Dragon Fly Grief Camp for Kids sponsored by Home Hospice of Grayson County, 505 W. Center St., Sherman, TX 75090.
