Jerold T. Elliott Sr., 85, of Gas died Friday, April 15, 2011, at his home.
He was born Nov. 24, 1925, in Erie, to John Junior and Martha Ellen (Smith) Elliott. He grew up in the Neosho County area and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
In 1953, he married Mary Catherine Ross. They made their home in Los Angeles County, Calif. and raised their four children. She died in 1973.
He worked for 35 years for Rockwell International before he retired. He moved to Kansas in 2005.
He and Alta L. (Hilt) Lee were married on June 14, 2008, in Iola. They made their home in Gas.
He was skilled at woodworking making model cars, trains, cabinets, porch swings and anything else he had the plans for.
He is survived by his wife of the home; three sons, Frank and his wife, Joyce, San Dimas, Calif., and John and Jerold Jr. both of Iola; a daughter, Lillian Louise Rohler, Iola; a stepdaughter, Nancy Hilt and her husband, Randy, Gas; a brother, Ivan, Gas; two sisters, Betty Clements, St. Paul, and Julia Stout, Iola; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Marvin, died earlier.
Graveside services were this morning at Odense Cemetery northeast of Chanute. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk officiated.
