It is with profound sadness yet deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Lawrence Sherwood, who left this world on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the age of 87, after a courageous battle with A.L.S. He was born on Aug. 25, 1938, in Iola.
Lawrence was the son of Ferris Sherwood and Beulah Merryman Sherwood. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bulinda Sherwood. Lawrence and Bulinda are survived by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A proud patriot, Lawrence answered the call of duty during the Vietnam War, serving stateside in the U.S. Army. After that, he went on to drive a truck for Ruan Transport for over two decades.
Lawrence was a man of many passions, but none as strong as his love for flying. The skies were his second home, and he found true joy and freedom amidst the clouds. His eyes would light up at the mere mention of flight, and he often shared stories of his airborne adventures.
A service to honor Lawrence’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Geneva Cemetery, 1936 600 St., Colony. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Lawrence are invited to join.
May Lawrence rest in peace and may his soul find eternal flight in the boundless skies he so dearly loved.
