Marie Goodspeed, 91, rural Colony, passed away on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018. She was born on Dec. 2, 1926 in rural Colony, the daughter of Charles Rufus Martin and Mary Irene (Samples) Martin.
In her professional career, Marie worked for Texaco, Thomas H. Bowlus at Allen County State Bank and as a stewardess with TWA. Friends cherished Marie’s straightforward humor, her hospitality, and her compassion for both people and animals. She was especially passionate about her children and grandchildren. Marie was an avid KC Royals fan. She enjoyed watching all sporting events. Marie’s faith in God was an integral part of her life and she was a treasured member of both her church family and her community.
On Dec. 6, 1958, Marie married the love of her life, 1st Lt. William “Bill” Hunter Goodspeed in Las Vegas. During their marriage, they resided in multiple states and Germany due to Bill being in the United States Army. Some of her fondest memories were of their time while stationed in Germany.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband and son, Paul Martin Goodspeed, her parents and a sister, Francis Nadine McMahon.
Marie is survived by son Matt Goodspeed, Prairie Village, daughter Heather Bell, Lake Forest, Calif., grandson Max Goodspeed, Lawrence, granddaughter Alexa Goodspeed, Louisburg, and numerous other family and friends.
Visitation for friends and family will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday with a Celebration of Life Ceremony commencing at 10 o’clock at Colony Community Church, 322 Garfield St., Colony, followed by graveside services at the Colony Cemetery on Ford Road.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Colony Community Church in Marie’s name.
