Oleta M. Venhaus, 88, Humboldt, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
Oleta was born in St. Paul on March 7, 1925, the daughter of Herman and Mary (Lero) Spielbusch. She attended school in St. Paul.
She was united in marriage to Lawrence Venhaus on Nov. 25, 1943, in St. Paul. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Oleta was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed cooking for her family. She enjoyed many hobbies over the years, including traveling, camping, and stained glass.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. She had made her home at Arrowood Assisted Living in Humboldt for the past four years.
Oleta is survived by her children, Don Venhaus and his wife Neva, Wichita, Jean Flores and her husband Chris, Humboldt, Linda O’Connor and her companion, Leonard Barnett, Humboldt, and daughter-in-law Andrea Venhaus, Topeka; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bill Spielbusch, St. Paul.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lawrence; a son Glen Venhaus; a son-in-law Mark O’Connor; an infant sister Velma; a sister Mary; a brother Gene; and twin brothers, Matthew and Martin.
Mass of Christian burial was today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Humboldt. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials in her name may be made to St. Patrick Catholic School in Chanute and may be left with Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements.
