Richard Edward “Eddie” Tyler, 61, Iola, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017, in Iola.
Richard was one of 11 children born to Dave J. Tyler and Alma P. Tyler. He was born July 1, 1955 in Colony. Richard was a graduate of Iola High School in May 1973. After graduation, Richard served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years. He then served in the U.S. Army for nine years. He was employed at area nursing homes.
Richard married Ocie F. Dobbs in 1976 and they later divorced. For the last 15 years Richard has resided with his partner, Pam Gurwell.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, James, William and Dave Tyler and Larry Thomas; and sister Janet Nash.
He is survived by his four children, Eric Tyler and wife Jamie, Girard, Stacey Tyler and partner Colby Neville, Arma, Jim Davis and partner, Edna Thompson, Iola, Lynn Warren and husband, Jack, Andover, Alyssa Osborne and husband Allen, Iola, and Aaron Gurwell, Chanute; 10 grandchildren, Blake Tyler, Peyton Scholes, Ciara and Camri Neville, Chelsea Davis and Kaylee Clugston, Stephen, Hailey and Hannah Warren and Emily Mollins; three brothers, George Thomas, Leesville, La., Victor Thomas, Athens, Ga., and Luther Tyler, Texas; two sisters, Anne Collins, Omaha, Neb., and Bonnie Kincaid, Erie. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Services include a visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola. Cremation will follow, with inurnment at Fort Scott National Cemetery at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 5. Contributions in Richard’s memory can be made to the Richard E. Tyler Memorial Fund.
