Robert E. “Bob” Taggart, 82, rural Iola, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo.
Bob was born Aug. 18, 1932, in Iola, the son of Claude D. and Leatha G. (Swinford) Taggart. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked most of his life as an auto and truck mechanic. On July 25, 1960, he married Theora Sanborn Bruner and they made their home on a farm east of Iola. He enjoyed taking care of his mules and horses.
Bob was a member of the LaHarpe V.F.W., Iola American Legion, and attended Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife Theora; a son, Bill Bruner, Kearney, Mo.; a brother, John Taggart, Callahan, Fla.; a half-brother, Eddie Bush, Iola; a half-sister, Patty, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lee Bruner, a sister, Shirley Tice, and a great-grandson, Zachary Suppes.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Burial at LaHarpe Cemetery. Memorials go to LaHarpe Cemetery. To sign the guestbook online or to leave a condolence go to www.iolafuneral.com.
