Roy “Butch” Leon Holland, age 76, of Marion, Ohio, passed away Sept. 11, 2025, surrounded by family. Roy was born Oct. 12, 1948, in Iola, Kansas, son of Roy and Lola “Johnson” Holland. Roy graduated from Iola High School in 1966 and then went on to serve in the U.S. Army.
Roy moved to Ohio and married Regina Bender; they later divorced. He married Pamela Jo Kauser on May 25, 1984.
Roy worked most of his life as a welder in Ohio. Roy and Pam owned a small convenience store named Hometown Pantry in Bainbridge, Ohio from 1997 to 2002. They sold it and moved to Iola, where he worked as a machinist at Kniesley Manufacturing until his retirement. In 2021, they returned to Ohio to be closer to their children.
Roy loved spending time with his family and friends. Vacations revolved around visiting Ohio, Kansas, and Florida. He enjoyed being in nature, camping, hiking, fishing, and hunting. Roy loved watching his grandsons play soccer and his favorite sports teams: the Ohio Buckeyes (where he attended many home games in “The Shoe”), the Cleveland Browns, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas Jayhawks. He also liked going to car and horse races. His hobbies in life were horse training, raising pigeons, car racing at the drag strip, building and creating things, and perhaps more than anything, jamming out to rock-and-roll.
Roy was preceded in death by his mother; children, Daniel and Joseph (infant twins), and Jeremy; and siblings, Phyllis Cook, Madalyn Varnell, Margery Masterson, and Rodger Holland.
Roy is survived by his wife Pam of 41 years; son, Daryl (Michelle) Holland; daughter, Melissa Holland; daughter-in-law, Cindy Holland; sisters, Linda Overton and Connie Shetlar; grandsons, Landen and Caleb; fur baby, Roxanne; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a private Celebration of Life service held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Marion Humane Society.
