William D. Allen, 85, of Iola died early Saturday morning, Oct. 2, 2010, at Moran Manor.
He was born Sept. 27, 1925, in Longmont, Colo., to James and Helen (Stover) Allen. One of 14 children, he grew up in the Loveland, Colo. area.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the National Guard of Colorado.
On March 21, 1953, he married Doris E. Myers. They made their home in Colorado and Wyoming before moving to California. He worked for the state of California taking care of state parks. She died Sept. 29, 2000. He then moved to Iola to live with his daughter, Diana, and her husband, Norman Mullins.
He liked to fish and work outside in the yard.
He is survived by four children, Tammy Allen, Ventura, Calif., Debi Corella and her husband, Greg, Oxnard, Calif., and Diana Mullins and her husband, Norman, and Ron Allen and his wife, Ann, both of Iola; two sisters, Dorothy Renshaw, Ventura, Calif., and Barbara Hersh, Fort Collins, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A son, Mike, died in 1987.
Funeral services are planned in California.
