Letter to the editor – June 3, 2026

My 92-year-old father spent most of the weekend trying to load a very heavy piece of equipment onto his trailer to take it away for scrap. His tractor just wasn’t doing the job.

I was nervous that he might get hurt. Wanting to get the job done so he wouldn’t have to deal with it anymore, I tried to think of a solution. Who could help? Who would help?

It occurred to me that down the road from us live Kevin and Rachel Covey. They’ve helped us in the past and are always happy and willing to help out a neighbor.

So I called Kevin and asked him about it. He said he would be here in 20 minutes. And he was.

He used his equipment and got the job done in about 10 minutes. He wouldn’t accept any compensation, like always.

Thank you so much, Kevin and Rachel, for all of your friendly, neighborly help. Not only did Kevin come and do the job, but he brought his wife, Rachel, and their son, Corbin. I got to chat with Rachel and Corbin while Kevin did the work.

This was not the first time Kevin dropped everything to come help my family out. My fiancé and I started talking about how this was an example of how neighbors used to help each other out. It was just what you did.

I want readers to know that there are still good neighbors out there who are willing to help.
