Letter to the editor — July 16, 2019

Dear editor,

I was quite concerned when Mr. Larry Walden approached the city council to remove a stoplight at the intersection of Madison and Buckeye, saying it was no longer necessary because students no longer attend classes at the Bowlus Fine Arts Center.

Well, I am a senior citizen and I live in this area. I walk frequently to the library. I feel safe to cross the busy intersection with the stoplight.

Yes, this is an intersection that has sad memories, for this is where I lost my car, which is all the more reason to have a stoplight there.

I want the stoplight to stay. The safety system is not broken. Why are we trying to fix it?

Thank you,

Joyce Woolard,

Iola, Kan.
