TOPEKA — Rep. Denise Apt of Iola was elected to the Education Commission of the States steering committee at the 17th Annual ECS meeting in Denver. She replaces Kansas Gov. John Carlin.

A new product line which will lead to doubled sales revenues has been added at Intercollegiate Press here. Bob Hessel, plant manager, said the line includes announcements, thank you notes and memory books. Five additional employees will be hired, bringing employment to 55.

Work on a new 55-bed hospital on the present site of Allen County Hospital could begin sometime next year. Allen County Commissioners agreed this morning to accept the proposal made by Research Medical Group to build the hospital and enter into a long-term lease of the property, building and equipment. (Voters later rejected a proposed $10 million bond issue to build the new hospital by a 4-to-1 margin.)
