In response to the Forum in Tuesday, April 27, from LaHarpe resident Judy Burkholder.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your well-written letter to the Forum about the four-wheelers in our town of LaHarpe.
I, too, have witnessed four-wheelers being ridden on the two back wheels.
I, too, see four-wheelers being operated by under-legal-age drivers without helmets or face shields with as many as three people on the machine. Running stop signs, speeding, cutting through private property and zooming from alley to alley without stopping for the street.
I, too, have called the sheriff’s department and received the same talk as you about talking to the city council. I have talked to the council who said to call the sheriff’s department (what a vicious circle).
I, too, am very concerned about an accident in our town involving four-wheelers, whether a four-wheeler crashes, hits a car or a car hits one of them.
What a pity it will be when someone’s child ends up broken, paralyzed, brain dead or even deceased because sufficient action hasn’t been taken in this matter. I pray that my family, my friends or that I am not the one who hits one of these four-wheelers.
I could not imagine living with the consequences, especially after we have asked for more than two years for something to be done about this tragedy waiting to happen.
