Dear Editor,

After reading Wednesday’s paper concerning the new hospital, it came as no surprise that there is all kinds of debris in the soil. I told one of the persons in charge of the decisions as where to build the hospital that there is several feet of debris, etc., on or under the land. Guess what, as usual, no heed was paid to the information given. I know the man who was paid to bury all of the stuff. He told me the debris, etc. was about six feet deep. So here is another $600,000 to be spent to take care of the mess. I doubt that $600,000 will do it. It will be more like a million before it is over.
I’m for a VA clinic, but I’m strongly opposed to the dog park and the expansion of the rails to trails or Prairie Spirit Trail. Sounds like we may have to build the hospital on a large set of pontoons if the ground is squishy.
The powers that be let their skimmers leak when they decided against going north of town. At that location they wouldn’t have had all of these problems. The lay of the land was great. The utilities could have, and should have, been supplied by the city. Like I have said before in the forum, “Keep Smilin’.” You people of Allen County haven’t seen it all yet. It’ll get worse.
Better use the money for the hospital instead of the spirit trail and dog park.
Respectfully,

Carl Letsinger,
Iola, Kansas
