The latest game of one-upmanship has to do with whether President Obama is a Christian. The Internet is laced with stories from self-proclaimed experts.
It is handy for President Obama’s detractors to talk about his upbringing, his name and even to question his citizenship — questions answered categorically many times over — through Internet postings that may be done with no means of ensuring credibility.
Most all of us, if we are honest with ourselves, are well-occupied fulfilling our own religious convictions without focusing on those of others, a pursuit that runs counter to what the Bible teaches. Gossiping is a sin.
We would be better served to spend our time dealing with problems that affect us all and not to twist words and comments to contrive what President Obama’s religious convictions may be, or whether they fit into what one or another person thinks a “Christian should be.” That is a dangerous analysis to pursue.
