Lately, I’ve been talking to a lot of people about our new hospital. They think the upcoming vote is to vote whether to build a new one or not. The vote is whether to add a countywide 1⁄4 cent sales tax to help build one.
Don’t people read the papers or go to any of the meetings?
The city has committed to give 1⁄4 cent sales tax to help get it started, then bonds will be sold.
We really need to get this information out to people and especially our non-registered voters with the explanations. I try to make it a point to explain the difference when I talk with people. We all need to do our part. There are committees here in town that would come and help explain what’s true and what’s not.
I also believe we need to let HCA only be our new managers. Let the county help run it locally. We would need to hire a CEO and CFO, then appoint a local hospital board.
Just a thought about what could be done with the old hospital. It might be re-vamped a little, then used as a college dormitory.
