It’s heartening to see the number of candidates who have filed for city council.
Still, a fuller slate would be nice.
Our cynical nature does elected officials a bum rap.
Most people who serve aren’t there to throw their weight around. Rather, they take their citizenship seriously and find that public office is a way they can play out that patriotism.

I’D VENTURE that most of us don’t see ourselves as leaders, even though we yearn to make a difference to our towns and schools.

The deadline to file is noon on Tuesday. For city offices, applications are at your respective city halls. In Iola, call 365-4900 for more information. For school board positions, file at the county clerk’s office, or call 365-1407.
