Voters will decide Nov. 2 whether to increase a countywide sales tax by 1⁄4 of a cent to go toward a new Allen County Hospital.
Members of the Allen County Healthcare Committee address questions about the issue.
Q: What would be the timeline for the new hospital?
A: The Allen County Hospital Master Plan Report that was presented to the public on Aug. 2 had a proposed timeline for a new hospital. According to that plan, if the bond issue for the quarter-cent tax passes Nov. 2, the consultants estimated it would be September 2011 or 10 months before design documents would be finished. Construction would not start before Oct. 3, 2011 and the project would not be completed before Jan. 25, 2013 or 16 months after the start date.
Although the replacement process would take more than two years from now to complete on a new site, during construction the present hospital would continue to be used at the present location. Patients will not be inconvenienced by the construction.
If you agree with us and would like to help our voter information effort with your time or your money we can use both. We expect it to take several hundred volunteers to get the word out with only a few short weeks before the election. Jackson, Iola, KS 66749 or left at the Moran, Humboldt or Iola branches of Emprise Bank where we have our checking account.
