Two area veterans were given a special ride aboard a Vietnam War-era plane on Thursday, as they were unable to attend a recent fly-in event.
Chad Hines, new commander of the 891st Engineer Battalion, spoke about sacrifice and what Memorial Day means to him at the Highland Cemetery in Iola.
“When you make little mistakes in the state tournament against a team like that, it makes it hard to come back from,” Iola head coach Ryan Latta said.
Family and friends gather Thursday afternoon to wish Iola athletes good luck for their endeavors at the Kansas State Track Meet, which begins Friday morning.
