Iola’s 8-and-under traveling team picked up a pair of wins Wednesday against squads from Mound City.
The Mustangs defeated Mound City’s 7-and-under team, 13-4, and the 8-and-under team, 15-4.
“Everybody on the team got hits, which is what we like to see,” Iola coach Jeff White said.
The Mustangs consist of players from Iola’s Bitty Ball League.
“It’s fun to compete against each other in league and then come together as a coaching staff for the traveling team,” White said. “Same goes for these boys. Sportsmanship is something they aren’t lacking.“
Collecting hits against the 7-and-under squad were:
Josh Perez, two singles and a double;  Brennen Nuessen and Zander Dickerson, each with two singles; Carter Hutton, Avery Blaufuss and Kasen Fudge, each with one single and one double; Korbyn Fountain, Jordan White and Keynan Stahl, each with one double; and Braden Jones, Payton Houk and Jack White, each with a single.
Getting hits against the 8-and-under team:
Fudge, two doubles and a single; Dickerson, Jordan White and Braden Jones, three singles each; White, one single and one triple; Blaufuss, one double and one single; Hutton and Houk, two singles apiece; Nuessen, Stahl and Perez, one double each; and Fountain, one single.
“Tonight, the patience was there,” Coach White said, adding the traveling team experience is valuable for the Mustang players, some as young as 6.
The Mustangs will host Osawatomie at 2 p.m. Sunday.
