LIBERAL, Mo. — Not much went right for Crest High’s squads Tuesday.
The Crest boys opened play at the Tony Dubray Classic on a sour note, trailing Galena 17-6 after one quarter and 33-16 at halftime.
It got worse from there. The Bulldogs expanded their lead to 54-27 after three in a 64-34 win.
On the girls side, Galena rolled to a 50-25 win.
The loss puts Crest in the consolation bracket. The Lady Lancers will return to action this afternoon at 4 to take on Northeast-Arma, while the boys play Golden City tonight at 8:30.
Final round action for both teams is Friday.
“We played a very poor game,” Crest boys head coach Travis Hermreck said. “I don’t recall a time in 16 years of coaching where my team played with this little effort or drive. It was a pretty embarrassing loss, to say the least.”
Crest’s Landon Stephens led the way for the Lancers with nine points, five rebounds and four steals, followed by Brock Ellis with eight points and four assists.
Gabe Helton paced the Bulldogs with 18.
Galena held a 21 to 14 rebounding advantage and forced 22 Lancer turnovers.

THE GALENA girls exploded for a 23-3 run to start their contest with the Lady Lancers. The lead was 37-10 at halftime and 47-16 after three.
Miranda Golden scored 10 for Crest, followed by Laurel Godderz with seven, Karlee Hammond with five, Madison Covey with three and Emily Frank with two.
