Some home cooking under the Friday night lights proved mighty tasty for Allen Community College.
The Red Devils trounced Baker University’s JV squad in both games, winning 18-0 and 8-1 in front of the home crowd.
You’d be hard pressed to determine which was more impressive: the hitting or the pitching.
A trio of Red Devil pitchers combined on a one-hit shutout in the opener. Brett Buchanan surrendered one hit over four innings, while striking out two. Kam’ron Mays-Hunt and Josh Prinner combined to pitch the fifth, a scoreless, hitless inning, striking out two.
At the other side of the ledger, Allen erased any doubt in Game 1 with a seven-run first inning.
Every Allen starter had at least one hit and scored a run, while all but leadoff batter Christian Altamirano, had at least one RBI.
Prinner (two hits) and Nathan Bach (one hit) each had a double, while Kyle Carver and Tanner Strickland singled twice. Altamirano, Fraai Roangeraud, Levi Bennett, Ayden Blachowicz and Lucas Banta chipped in with singles. Strickland smacked a team-high four RBIs as well.
The Red Devils hardly skipped a beat in the nightcap, scoring three in the second, one in the fifth and four in the sixth.
Josh Fluet pitched five shutout innings with seven strikeouts and four hits allowed. Jack Neil came on in relief, pitching two hitless innings, striking out three.
Rhett Yaggers got things started by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the second. Altamirano drove in Beau Brown with a single, and Roangeraud delivered a sacrifice fly and a 3-0 lead.
Brown legged out a two-out triple in the fourth before he zipped in to make it 4-0 on a wild pitch.
Another two-out rally in the sixth capped ACC’s scoring. Prinner doubled in Altamirano before Levi Bennett scored Prinner with a single. Bach’s RBI double made it 8-0.
An error and two wild pitches provided Baker JV’s sole run.
