ACC basketball falls at Coffeyville

Allen Community College's men and women's basketball teams fell behind early and could not catch back up in dropping games Saturday at Coffeyville.

COFFEYVILLE — Allen Community College could not continue its best stretch of the basketball season Saturday.

The Red Devils saw their three-game winning streak come to an end with an 81-61 loss at sixth-ranked Coffeyville Community College.

The Red Ravens jumped out to a 43-27 halftime lead and never looked back, while limiting Allen to 30% shooting on the night and a cool 6 of 23 from 3-point range. Conversely, the Ravens shot a blistering 60% from the field.

Shaikim Jenks and Ahmed Mahgoub paced the Red Devils with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Freddie Word led with five rebounds, while Cedric Rollerson had seven points and two steals. Amadou Traore added nine points and two assists.

Tylor Perry led four Raven players in double figures with 15.

IN WOMEN’S action, Coffeyville took control with a 22-13 lead after one quarter in what became a 70-51 victory.

The Red Devils responded with a solid second quarter, out-scoring Coffeyville 19-15 in the period, but the Ravens sealed the win with a 20-11 third-quarter run to lead 57-43.

Adji Mbaye led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds for ACC, while Addison Towe scored eight points. Mbaye also had two steals. Yasmine Garcia, Endiah Byrd, Hallie Reed and Kiley Biltoft all had two assists.

Saturday’s contest showed marked improvement for Allen with turnovers (14), overall shooting percentage (40%) and 3-point shooting (9 of 22). Seven Red Devil shooters had 3-pointers.

Paige Scott’s 14 paced Coffeyville.

As an aside, the game marked the 300th career win for Coffeyville head coach Tony Turner, who started his coaching career at Allen in 2006.

Allen’s men are at Neosho County tonight in a makeup game from January. Both the men and women are at home Wednesday against Cowley County.
