OTTAWA — Allen Community College’s softball team piled up plenty of offense Wednesday, but couldn’t keep host Ottawa University’s junior varsity off the scoreboard.
The Red Devils fell in both games of a road doubleheader, 10-7 and 14-13.
The 14-13 loss was particularly painful. Allen racked up 16 hits, had a 7-0 lead after half an inning and took advantage of nine Ottawa errors — but still couldn’t secure the victory.
The Braves pulled even, 7-7, by the bottom of the fourth inning only to see Allen score four more in the fifth to take an 11-7 lead.
Undaunted, Ottawa scored three each in the fifth and sixth to lead 13-11.
Allen’s last salvo came in the top of the ninth. Jordan Barber doubled to lead off the inning. She scored on Bailey Burnett’s double. Stormie Bush moved Burnett to third on a single before an Ottawa error plated Burnett to tie the score, 13-13.
Emily England gave up a leadoff single in the ninth, but retired the next two batters, before Ottawa’s Jenna Stigge ended the game with a ground ball single up the middle.
Burnett pushed ACC on top 1-0 with an RBI single in the first. Callie Beene followed with a two-run single, scoring Shelby Maycumber and Burnett for a 3-0 lead. An Ottawa error pushed Beene home before Marissa Luna drove in the fifth run with an RBI grounder. Kayla Bourgeois scored on a wild pitch before Annie Gentry’s RBI double scored Erika King for the final run.
Bourgeois singled and scored on King’s RBI single in the fifth. A wild pitch scored King before Brave errors on consecutive plays allowed Gentry and Barber to score.
England took the loss. She gave up 14 hits in five innings. She struck out three. Luna started, giving up six hits in 1 2/3 innings. She also struck out three.
Gentry and Burnett both went 4-for-5. Each also had a double. Beene and King both singled twice. Barber had a double. Maycumber, Bush and Bourgeois all singled.

A FOUR-RUN fourth allowed Ottawa to break a 3-3 deadlock in the opener. The lead grew to 10-3 before the Red Devils made things interesting with four runs in the top of the sixth.
The Braves led 3-0 before Allen got on the board in the top of the third. Gentry singled and scored on Barber’s RBI single with one out. Bourgeois drove in Barber with a two-out single, but she was gunned down at the plate trying to score from second on Bush’s ground ball single to left.
King evened the score in the top of the fourth with an RBI single to score Beene, who tripled one batter earlier.
Shayla Stephens walked to lead off the sixth. An error put her at third and Beene at sceond before King delivered an RBI single. Gentry scored both Beene and King with a triple. She then scored on Maycumber’s sacrifice bunt to cut the deficit to 10-7.
Barber and Burnett then singled to bring the tying run to the plate, but Bourgeois was retired on a fly ball to end the rally.
The Red Devils went down in order in the top of the seventh to end the game.
England took the loss, giving up 11 hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Luna pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing two hits with two strikeouts.
Gentry and Beene both went 2-for-4 with triples. Barber and King also singled twice. Burnett, Bourgeois and Bush added singles.
Allen returns home for doubleheaders Friday against Cowley and Saturday against Independence.
