Over the weekend, Allen Community College’s basketball program hosted Cloud County Community College.
The Red Devils snapped a two-game losing streak and, in the process, earned their first victory in the 2016 calendar year.
With its 89-61 win over Cloud, Allen improved to 10-7 overall and 2-5 within the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
Jermaine Long, who has been the Red Devils’ most consistent offensive threat, scored a game-high 19 points while also adding four rebounds, three assists and four steals.
DaRon Mims (18), Jameel Henson (16), Tremaine Fraiser (15) and Jah-Kobe Womack (10) were Allen’s other double-digit scorers on the night.
The Red Devils will try to climb closer to .500 within the conference when they travel to Coffeyville on Wednesday.
The Lady Red Devils, on the other hand, lost out on an opportunity to extend their winning streak to two but instead fell to the Lady Thunderbirds, 78-57.
Allen had hoped its win on Wednesday — its first in nearly two months — would help bring the team some momentum heading into the rest of the season.
And at first, it seemed as if the Lady Red Devils were on their way toward a hot streak when they jumped out to an early lead. But that lead soon dissipated and Allen fell to 6-11 on the season and 1-6 in conference play.
Haley Wilson, Ashley Washington and Ariyah Sorrells were Allen’s three best scorers with 13, 12 and 11 points, respectively, on the night.
