EL DORADO — Despite having the bare number of runners in order to qualify for a team score, the Allen Community College women’s cross country team had no trouble earning a first-place finish at the Ollie Isom Invitational on Friday.
The Lady Red Devils, who are ranked No. 10 in the country, finished the meet with 38 points, which was nine points better than second-place finisher No. 6 Butler.
Kaitlin Shoemaker led the team with a first-place overall finish after recording a 19:23.
Kristina Silvers crossed the finish line 15 seconds after Shoemaker to earn second place.
Allen also placed the fourth and sixth overall runners in Vicky Ibarra and Taylor Jameson, respectively.
Coach Vince DeGrado’s fifth and final runner was Asha Alvarez, who competed in just her second collegiate cross country meet.
