OVERLAND PARK —  Allen County Community College’s Red Devils lost twice to NJCAA 17th-ranked Johnson County Community College’s Cavaliers Friday.
A second Jayhawk Eastern Division doubleheader from the weekend was moved to Monday, then to today, because of inclement weather. The teams were to conclude the four-game conference series this afternoon at JCCC.
On Friday, the Cavaliers shut out the Red Devils, 9-0, in the opener. Nick Fountain went the distance — seven innings — for ACCC. He allowed 12 hits, walked three, hit one batter and struck out five.
Allen County had just three hits in the game. Bryce Williams tripled while Fountain and Michael Schell each had a single.
In the second game, Allen County got out to a 3-1 lead after two innings but ended up losing 7-4 in the nine-inning contest. The two losses put the Red Devils at 2-12 in Jayhawk East play and 8-16 overall.
Riley Price singled and went to second on a wild pitch for the Red Devils in the first inning. Curtiss Bunch had a one-out base hit then Fountain drove in the run with a single.
Johnson County scored two runs in its half of the first. That chased ACCC starter Dylan Bowman, who pitched two-thirds of the inning and was charged with two runs on four walks.
Kaleb Clark, who took the loss, worked 2 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on one hit and four walks. He struck out two. Zak Mickens came in and pitched five innings. He allowed three runs on four hits and five walks with three strikeouts.
Allen County gained the lead in the second inning. Brad Alberts doubled and Eric Seymore was safe on a squeeze-bunt single. Price drove in both runs with a base hit.
Johnson County tied the game in the third at 3-3 then had single runs in the fourth and seventh innings. The Cavaliers added two runs in the sixth.
Allen County produced a run with two gone in the ninth. Fountain, who was 4-for-5 in the game, tripled and scored on a single by Brayden Brumley.
Fountain had three singles and a triple while Price hit three singles. Alberts had a double and a single and Seymour had two singles.
