Allen County Community College track athletes continue to compete at a high level in the outdoor track meets. The Red Devils have had solid outings in three meets over the past week.
Allen County is in Overland Park this weekend for the Region VI/Jayhawk Conference Championships. The track meet is hosted by Johnson County Community College.
The Red Devils sent athletes to two meets this past weekend. Allen County participated in the University of Arkansas Twlight meet in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday then had athletes at the Dean Pryor Invitational at Coffeyville Community College Saturday.
Angelica Larrier ran fourth in the 100-meter dash at the Arkansas Twlight meet. Her time of 12.04 seconds qualified her for the NJCAA national track meet. Isiah Young won the men’s 100-meter dash in a personal-best tim of 10.32 seconds. Kyran Stewart finished third in 10.48 and DeAndrea Simmons was sixth in 10.70.
Selwyn Tatum captured second in the 200-meter dash in 21.45 seconds with Trent Huling in ninth place in 22.14. Tatum took ninth in the 100 meters in 10.88 seconds.
Allen County’s 4×100-meter relay team of D. Simmons, Stewart, Young and Huling finished first in 40.56 seconds. Huling and Stewart combined with Kyrese Banks and John Thurston to place 11th in the 4×400-meter relay race in 3 minutes, 18.66 seconds.
Postenea Louisjeune placed 10th in the women’s long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 91⁄2 inches.
At Coffeyville, Amanda Smith won the long jump in her first-ever college competition. Smith went 16’71⁄4” to win with ACCC teammate Rackell Goldson in fifth at 15’91⁄2”.
Smith took fifth in the 200-meter dash in 27.19 seconds. Akilah Threadgill was seventh in 28.54.
For the ACCC men, Cameron Parker captured gold in the triple jump with a leap of 47’10”.
William Brown took eighth in the shot put with a throw of 32’21⁄4” and DeAndre Speed was ninth at 31’111⁄2”.
Kyrese Banks took third in the 400-meter dash in 50.54 seconds and Brandon Forbes was fourth in 51.12 seconds. In the 200 meters, Bryant Terry took fifth in 22.59 with Abraham Walker in seventh at 23.01 and Terrance Brooks in 13th at 23.73. Walker took sixth in the 100 meters in 11.63 seconds and Brooks was ninth in 11.79.
Allen County competed in the Southwestern College Relays held April 24 at Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City.
Louisjeune claimed the women’s long jump by almost a foot with a leap of 18’51⁄4”. Threadgill was 15th at 14’41⁄2”. Smith took third in the 400-meter dash in 59.53 seconds.
“Angelica had the fastest time going into the 100-meter finals but she false started and did not get to run in the finals,” said Christa Baird, ACCC assistant coach. Larrier ran her preliminary race in 12.12 seconds.
Larrier, Louisjeune, Goldson and Threadgill combined for fifth place in the 4×400-meter relay race in 4:19.44.
Allen County’s men went 1-2-3 in the 100-meter dash led by Young with a winning time of 10.39 seconds, which was a new meet mark. Stewart took second in 10.64 and D. Simmons was third in 10.71.
Justin Boyd was fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.79 seconds. Thurston was second in the 400-meter dash in 49.35 seconds and Huling was third in 49.50 seconds.
Tatum, who was competing unattached at the Southwestern Relays, won the 400-meter dash in 48.49 seconds. He also won the 200-meter dash in 21.91 seconds.
Marwin Simmons won the men’s long jump with a distance of 23’21⁄2”.
The ACCC 4×100-meter relay team of D. Simmons, Young, Stewart and M. Simmons broke the meet record. The Red Devil foursome won the race in 40.37 seconds.
Allen County had two teams running the 4×400-meter relay race. The team of Huling, Young, Stewart and D. Simmons was first in 3:19.31 and the team of Terry, Banks, Walker and Forbes was third in 3:23.07.
Terry, Forbes, Walker and Banks combined for a fourth-place finish in the 4×800-meter relay in 8:54.83. Speed was 25th in the shot put at 33’111⁄2” and Julian Christian was 27th in the discus at 102’0”.
