PARSONS — Allen County Community College’s Red Devil women continue to struggle. They scored only 11 points in the first half Saturday, losing 66-47 to host Labette Community College’s Cardinals.
“We have to figure out at some point you can’t turn it on and off,” said Marcus Hicks, ACCC women’s head coach. “If you don’t focus and work hard, you can’t give yourself a chance to be successful.”
Labette, which improved to 3-3 in Jayhawk Eastern Division play, led 35-11 at halftime. Allen County, now 0-6 in conference play, outscored the Cardinals in the second half, 36-31.
It was Allen County’s 14th straight loss. The Red Devils (2-15) travel to Fort Scott Wednesday. Fort Scott (1-5, 4-14) lost 68-47 to Cowley County Saturday.
Danielle Best fired in four three-point field goals to have 14 points for the Red Devils. Allen County shot 34.5 percent, 19 of 55, from the field and downed 5 of 12 free throw attempts.
Aeriss McNeese and Kynesha Nisbett each had five rebounds as the Red Devils had a total of 38 rebounds.
Queona Walker handed out three assists, plus she and Mc-Neese each had two steals.
Labette shot 40 percent, 26 of 65, from the field and hit 9 of 14 free throw attempts. The Cardinals got 14 points from Raven Taylor and 13 from Tesia Danner. Cierra Emerson added 11 points. The Cardinals had 41 rebounds.
