Opposing coaches fretted over how they were going to defend Andra Bailey and Breanna Shaw. They were the leading scorers for Allen County Community College’s men and women during the 2009-2010 basketball season.
Most of the games during the season, Bailey and Shaw were in double-digit scoring for their Red Devil teams. Bailey had 25 double-doubles — 10 or more points and 10 or more rebounds — in 29 games while Shaw had four double-doubles in 31 games.
Bailey and Shaw were recognized for their efforts this season by Jayhawk Conference coaches.
Bailey was named to the 2009-2010 All-Jayhawk Eastern Division first team. The 6-4 sophomore forward from St. Louis, Mo., also landed a spot on the 2009-2010 All-Region VI, Division I first team.
Shaw, a 5-10 freshman forward from Killeen, Texas, earned All-Jayhawk East and All-Region VI, Division honorable mention. Shaw led Region VI in scoring for the first half of the season and finished third on the region scoring list.
Bailey led the Red Devil men in six different categories this season. He was the team’s leading scorer with 438 points, which was a 15.1-point per game average. He led the team with 58.4 percent from the field, 164 of 281. Bailey hit 18 of 47 three-point field goal attempts.
At one time, Bailey led the nation in rebounding. He finished in fourth place on the national rebounding list. Bailey had 379 rebounds, which led ACCC, was second in Region VI and in Jayhawk East play. He was first in the Jayhawk East and in the region in offensive rebounds with 171 and second in defensive rebounds with 208.
Bailey led the Red Devils and the Jayhawk East in steals with 78 this season. That put him second in the region and 22nd in the nation in steals.
Bailey, who earned All-Jayhawk East honorable mention as a freshman, finished his two seasons as a Red Devil with 738 points, 727 rebounds and 130 steals. He also had 145 assists and 41 blocked shots.
Shaw paced the Red Devil women with 588 points, which was a 19-point per game average. Her point total put her second among Jayhawk East scorers and third in Region VI. Shaw finished 10th in the nation in scoring.
Shaw fired in 68 of 222 three-point field goal attempts, leading the Red Devils and was second in the Jayhawk East and fifth in the region in threes made.  From the field, Shaw was 201 of 486, 41 percent, and hit over 81 percent, 118 of 144, from the free-throw line.
Shaw was Allen County’s second-leading rebounder with 189. She had 41 assists and 47 steals.
