The Red Devil women continued to struggle in their 75-45 loss to Butler Community College on Wednesday night.

“I was really disappointed in our posts,” Allen coach Todd Buchanan said. “I didn’t feel like our posts showed up at all. Part of that is because we wouldn’t move. Lack of movement and lack of ball movement is a killer and when we do that obviously the result is what it is.”

Fresh off a 48-point loss to Cowley County Community College on Saturday, Allen wasn’t able to  get back into their groove on Wednesday.

“At Cowley, we didn’t show up at all,” Buchanan said. “I felt like tonight, we showed up but we weren’t willing to finish. We weren’t willing to do the things that we needed to do to finish each possession.”

Haley Wilson led the Red Devils with a game-high 22 points. The sophomore guard was on fire from behind the three-point arc, hitting six triples in the game.

“I was proud of her,” Buchanan said. “Unfortunately for her, I thought she was playing by herself for quite a bit of the game. She’s a great kid and a nice player, but if we don’t have balance, there is no one person that can lead us to that promised land. There was a lot of weight on her shoulders tonight.”

Ariyah Sorrells joined Wilson in double figures with 10 points off the bench for Allen, the rest of the team struggled mightily to score.

Other than Wilson and Sorrells, no other Red Devil scored more than 4 points on the night. The rest of the team shoot 4-of-31 from the field.

“When we are productive and when we have good balance, we move, we cut, we play basketball, we set screens, we pop, we pick, we roll, we do the things that we need to do to be successful,” Buchanan said. “I saw way too much one-on-one tonight for my personal taste.”

Turnovers continue to plague Allen. They committed 26 against the Butler pressure.

“Anytime somebody puts pressure on us, we don’t attack the basket,” Buchanan said. “We play away from it. We play like we’re scared instead of being aggressive.”

Wilson and McKena Arlt were the primary offenders with four turnovers apiece.

“When we stop moving, we stop cutting, we put over heads down and instead of fighting back, we start pouting and feeling sorry for ourselves,” Buchanan said. “And that’s not going to work — not at this level.”

Tamara Lee led the Grizzly attack with 16 points and Nia Roberts added 12 points.

Allen hits the road this weekend for a Saturday tilt with Independence.
