The Allen Community College men’s and women’s cross country teams had a historic weekend in Overland Park during the KJCCC/Region VI Championships.
The men captured their first ever Region VI Championship while cruising to their fourth consecutive conference title as well.
“We finally got that monkey off of our backs and put together a championship season,” coach Vince DeGrado said. “We knew going in it was going to a race between us and Butler CC. From the gun they jumped out on us early and had the lead through mile three, but our strength and depth eventually prevailed just like I figured it would be.”
On the women’s side, the Lady Red Devils placed third in the region and first in the conference only a year removed from not even having enough runners to qualify as a team in 2014.
