Allen men take first loss

After demolishing Friends University over the weekend, the Allen Red Devils received their first dose of adversity while on the road Tuesday night.

The Allen Red Devils sustained their first loss of the season, 85-81, while on the road Tuesday against Connors State College in Warner, Oklahoma.

The Connors State Athletics emerged victorious in a 40-minute dogfight with neither team relenting until the final whistle.

Allen benefitted from another strong performance from freshman guard Clyde Davis Jr., who nearly had a triple-double.

Davis finished with a team-leading 32 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Sophomore guard Jyson Demcher tied Davis in rebounds and assists and scored 14 points. Freshman guard Derrick Cooper scored 15.

Allen freshman guard Moses Stephenson also had a solid night with 10 points while freshman guard Nyjah Noyes came off the bench for 7 points while shooting 1 of 2 beyond the 3-point line.

With the loss, the Red Devils even their record to 1-1. They hope to get back in the win column and then some over the weekend, when they return to Oklahoma for the Northern Oklahoma Classic. 

Allen kicks off tournament pool play at 6 p.m. Friday against host school Northern Oklahoma Enid, then faces Redlands Community College Saturday at noon. They remain on the road for a game against Seminole State College Tuesday, then host Friends University Junior Varsity Friday, Nov. 15.
