Allen Community College’s baseball team snapped an extended losing streak in a flurry of games to make up for lost time due to bad weather. THE BATS fell silent against Coffeyville Wednesday.
On Monday, the Red Devils defeated Independence 6-0 in the first game of a doubleheader before dropping the nightcap 7-4.
On Wednesday, Allen traveled to Coffeyville for a makeup game, falling 6-0.
Weather permitting, the schedule hits high gear this weekend.
The Red Devils host Labette today and Sunday for a pair of doubleheaders. Both sets of games begin at 2 p.m. On Wednesday, Allen hosts Butler with doubleheader starting at 3.
Monday’s victory was spearheaded by the dominating pitching of Tanner Lee, who allowed only a single hit — a fourth-inning single — in seven innings. His only flaw came from walks; he surrendered seven. He also struck out four.
Cody Amerine’s bases-loaded double drove in two. Garrett Rasch followed with a bunt single to drive in another run. Amerine came in to score on a wild pitch.
Allen’s first run came in the bottom of the first with one-out singles by Tim Lewis and Jerrik Sigg. An Independence error allowed Lewis to score.
The final run of the day came in the fourth. A throwing error allowed Sigg to score from second.
Sigg went 3-for-4, while Rasch had two hits. Amerine doubled. Lewis had a single.
Independence’s seven-run fourth inning was all the Pirates needed. Allen rallied with one run in the sixth and three more in the seventh, but drew no closer than the final three-run margin.
Nate Arnold drove in Lewis for the first run. Sigg singled to drive in Troy Willoughby in the seventh. Arnold followed with a two-run double. Another runner was thrown out at the plate, cutting the rally short.
Geoffrey Borque took the loss, giving up two hits and three walks in three innings. Jake Johnson followed with three hitless innings of relief. Grant McMillan gave up one hit in his inning of duty.
Arnold had three hits, including two doubles. Lewis singled twice. Sigg and Willoughby had one hit apiece.
Raven pitcher Tyler Buss surrendered only two walks in his complete-game no-hitter, with five strikeouts. Coffeyville scored single runs in the first three innings and three more in the sixth for insurance.
Seth Jones went the distance for Allen, giving up five hits and four walks in six innings of work. He struck out four.
