A strong fourth-quarter effort just wasnt enough for the Lady Devils after a back-and-forth game led to a 88-78 loss to Redlands Community College on ACCs home court Tuesday night.
The loss, the Allen womens third-straight, moves them to 2-4 overall this season.
Eight lead changes filled the first quarter as the Lady Devils struggled to contain Redlands offensive weapons.
Allen trailed 17-14 after the first quarter and allowed that lead to widen to 12 after a rough defensive second quarter put them behind 47-35 at the half.
Things didnt improve much in the third quarter as Allen soon found themselves down 20.
But little by little, the Lady Devils started to fight their way back into the game led by freshman Gabby Guzman and sophomore Jakira Wilson.
Wilson really started to attack the rim while Guzman began to light it up from three-point land. By the end of the third, the Lady Devils trailed by only nine.
The Allen women turned on their press to start the fourth, rattling the Cougars and allowing freshman Ariel Walker to come up with several huge steals that turned into transition buckets for the Lady Devils.
Two back-to-back threes from Guzman got Allen within three with just minutes to go.
Eventually, the Lady Devils had to resort to fouling and Redlands hit their free throws down the stretch to pull away and get the 10-point win.
Guzman had a career-high 25 points followed by a career-high 20 for Walker and 18 for Wilson.
Up next, the Lady Devils will travel to Warner, Okla., to face Connors State on Saturday before returning home next week to host Kansas City Kansas Community College on Tuesday. Theyll then head into conference play the week after.
