CONCORDIA — The mother of all cold spells did in Allen Community College’s women Wednesday.

The Red Devils didn’t score until 6½ minutes remained in the second quarter, while host Cloud County Community College scored the game’s first 26 points in a 65-41 victory.

Allen began the game with 13 straight misses and 13 turnovers as the T-Birds pulled ahead, 17-0, after one quarter and 26-0 with 7:10 left in the half.

Adji Mbaye’s free throw at the 6:30 mark put ACC on the board for the first time. Endiay Byrd’s three-point play with 4:32 left ended a 32-1 T-Bird run.

The T-Birds led by as many as 32 early in the second half before the Red Devils found their groove. A 9-0 Allen run pulled the Red Devils to within 44-21, but Cloud immediately responded with an 8-2 spurt to douse any faint hopes of a comeback.

Byrd scored 11 points and pulled in eight rebounds to lead the Red Devils. Hallie Reed scored eight. Mbaye added six points, five boards and two assists.

Le’Yanna McGinnis, the reigning Jayhawk Conference player of the week, scored 26 to lead Cloud.
