The coaching carousel has taken a late turn for Allen Community College athletics.
Allen women’s head basketball coach Mark James resigned Wednesday in order to take the helm at Dodge City Community College.
“It puts us in a bit of a bind in the 11th hour, with school starting soon, but this is a good career opportunity for Coach James,” Allen athletics director Jessica Peters said.
James informed ACC administrators his intention to resign a week before it became official.
James took over a 3-27 squad in the fall of 2011, and promptly oversaw an improvement to 11-20 in his first year and  14-17 in his second.
The Red Devils hosted a Region VI playoff game this spring for the first time in several years.
Interviews with head coaching prospects were scheduled for today, Peters said, with the hopes a replacement will be hired by the end of the week.
Kiara Marshall, hired earlier this summer as assistant women’s coach, will remain.

ALLEN also is losing Brett Lisher, assistant baseball coach under long ACC head coach Val McLean.
Lisher resigned in July in order to pursue a job in the private sector, Peters said.
Interviews for his replacement also were scheduled for today.

IN OTHER ACC news, Chelsea Layman was hired this month as assistant cheer and dance coach under head coach Mindy Covey.
