Multiple area junior varsity programs were in action Monday.

After the Cubs crushed Erie for Homecoming last Friday, the Red Devils JV returned the favor Monday in a 58-32 victory.

Despite strong individual performances from Humboldt, the Cubs could not keep up with Erie, who built a 44-16 lead before Humboldt came to its senses.

“We were pretty good on the offensive side of the ball,” Humboldt coach Jeremy Weilert said.

“Brock Ivy ran the ball well. Riley Lassman is starting to really develop as a quarterback. We just couldn’t stop them on defense.”

Ivy rushed for three touchdowns while nearly averaging 10 yards per carry for 119 yards rushing. Lassman completed 9 of 14 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Envy Oberbeck had a team-leading four catches for 43 yards, followed by Ivy with three catches for 36 yards and Breckin Guenther with one catch for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, defensive end Kameron McClenning had a team-leading six tackles, followed by defensive tackle Cooper Peters with five and defensive tackle Braxton Fitzmaurince with two.

Marmaton Valley High School’s junior varsity team proved it has not fallen far from the tree. After the varsity dismantled Northeast 70-24, the junior varsity hosted West Franklin Monday in a 48-0 victory.

The Iola High School junior varsity fell 30-0 to Santa Fe Trail.
