UNIONTOWN — Uniontown High’s varsity and junior varsity volleyball squads capped a successful evening Tuesday by sweeping two matches apiece.
The varsity had little difficulty in rolling past Pleasanton 25-7, 25-9 and Uniontown 25-9, 25-15.
The junior varsity, meanwhile, dumped Pleasanton twice, winning 25-6, 25-9 and 25-10 and 25-15,  and 25-16 in the second match.
“I have said it before: it is always good to play at home, and we really took advantage of being on our home court in front of our home crowd,” said Lady Eagle head coach Jackie Hall. “It was a great night of volleyball for us. The team is becoming more comfortable with the changes we made in our line-up last week. I can tell they are more comfortable and it shows. We really passed well, and that enabled us to run our offense more effectively.
In the varsity win over Pleasanton, Abby Dixon led the way with 17 points. Ashley Nietfield was 13-for-13 on attacks with six kills. Hayden Rathbun connected on 10 of 13 attacks with seven kills. Tayler Shook had 10 set assists.
Against Crest, Dixon had 13 points, Rathbun was 14 of 16 on attacks with 12 kills. Hope Jurgenson was 11-for-11 on attacks with six kills. Nietfield was 10 of 11 on attacks with five kills. Shook delivered 16 assists.

Humboldt will host its own tournament Saturday.
The Lady Eagle JV squad also hosted a tournament over the weekend. Uniontown defeated Humboldt 25-5, 25-5 behind Brit Stokes with 13 points. Mandie Ridge was 4 of 5 on attacks with two kills. Perry was 4 of 5 on attacks.
The Lady Eagles defeated Yates Center 25-10, 25-10. Amber Bartlett had 12 points. Brit Stokes was 13 of 14 on attacks with five kills. Ridge was 8 of 9 on attacks with a kill.
The squad capped a perfect weekend by downing Cherryvale 25-7, 25-7 behind Taylor Wade’s 14 points. Ridge was 16 of 20 on attacks with nine kills. Perry was 10 of 12 on attacks with three kills.
“This was a good outing for our JV squad,” Hall said. “They got to play some teams that we do not normally see throughout the season.”

HUMBOLDT High’s volleyball squad struggled on the court Tuesday on the road at Neodesha, but still came away with a victory.
The Lady Cubs came back to defeat Cherryvale High 20-25, 25-17, 25-20 in the opening match before falling to host Neodesha 20-25, 25-19, 25-21.
“We did not play well tonight,” said Stephanie Splechter, Humboldt head coach. “We could not seem to get a rhythm going and had way too many unforced errors.
In the Cherryvale win, Sheri Middleton delivered 10 kills and four blocks. Kindahl Young had five kills, two blocks and three aces. Hannah McCall had four kills and nine digs and Anna Setter delivered nine assists, four aces and 16 service points. Taylor Morris had eight assists and Taylyn Wells produced nine digs.

MARMATON VALLEY High split a pair of matches on the road at Altoona-Midway.

“We came out kind of slow and I was hoping the girls would gain some intensity in the next game,” said Wildcat head coach Lindsey Ermel.
That didn’t happen in a 25-17, 25-17 loss to St. Paul.
“I don’t know where the girls went,” Ermel said. “Wherever it was, our passing went with them. We struggled with our passing and keeping the serve for multiple points. We made some mistakes that hurt us at some big moments.
Marmaton Valley’s varsity squad travels to Uniontown’s tournament Saturday. The junior varsity squad heads to Chanute.

SOUTHERN COFFEY County came up on the short end of a pair of matches at Burlingame Tuesday, falling to their hosts 25-15, 25-16 and to Waverly 26-24, 25-14.
“We are still committing way too many unforced errors and we just can’t do that against good teams like Waverly and Burlingame,” said Lady Titan head coach Jeff True.
Ashton Isch and Sarah Webb led SCC with nine kills apiece. Katelyn Rogers had nine assists. Webb and Breanna Isch each had three solo blocks.
True pointed to the team’s serving percentage as a positive. The Lady Titans connected on 90 percent of its serves against Waverly and 97 percent against Burlingame.
